After reading the two (at present) reviews on Amazon as well as the reviews in the Apple app store (in short, the latter were scathing zero star reviews) I assumed I'd set this up, have the same problems, write a bad review and move on. Much to my surprise, this camera and the associated software has worked flawlessly since I set it up. I am able to view and control the camera from computers in my home as well as from my iPhone away from home. However I tend to trust reviews and I'm pretty concerned that another Amazon Top 500 reviewer had major issues... I'll come back and update this review if I run into problems but so far so good. This is the first Motorola I have tried... regardless of its name, pet cam, its just another wifi cam, which are becoming very popular. As some people have mentioned in their review, set up can range from impossible to simple, all based on the type of net work you have, and more importantly, the foundation of knowledge you possess about networks, wifi, and apps. I have used many Foscams as well, some take me 15 minutes to make them fully functional, others, several days.... these things can be quirky. I had no reason to call customer support, but some people have, and, well.....As for the mic / speaker in these, well, they work, kinda... sometimes... it is surely not what they are sold for....the speaker is so tiny, it ruffles the sound...mic is hard to hear on.... again, its a camera, with some sound features...that is being nice :-). Okay, so this is through an iPhone and iPad but I plugged it, downloaded the application, followed the prompts and I was online. I had a microphone to talk to my dogs and hear my dogs, I could select the music to play through the camera, which I was not aware of and is very cool. This took me about 5-10 minutes to set up. The picture is not awesome as most real-time videos (like skype) are not all that great either, but when my dogs are not in motion this is awesome. The music and my voice through the camera did freak my 7 month old puppy out which is a lot of fun but I will have to get him used to it. I think the ease of getting this working was very cool. It has a small hole in bottom where I think i will put a short nail in a wall to mount it on the wall since the top will let me position the camera sideways or even upside down if i wanted that way it is totally out of reach of the dogs and gives me a distance. |
