It was super hot when I went to check on it after the setup process, since it was saying it was offline. It sounds like other reviewers experienced this as well. My Dropcam Pro never generated heat like this. Nest also took away the feature that disables the camera when you get back home based on your GPS location. Instead, they redirect you to their other products (thermostat, smoke alarm) to get that feature back in the app. That was the one feature that made it acceptable to put an always-on cloud recording device in your home. I personally don't like the idea of supporting a company chooses to deactivate features to strengthen their portfolio sales. I don't expect them to be focused on making great products that work better together if this is the attitude. The crippled software and poor quality hardware may be just the beginning. I just got off the phone with Nest support for the Nest Cam/Dropcam products and Nest has removed the option to enable and disable the camera when you leave or arrive with your phone (Geo Fencing). Their solution is to use the home/away feature of the Nest thermostat or log in manually to the Nest Cam site and enable / disable every time you need to turn on the camera. This means either you allow the Nest thermostat to turn off the camera when an intruder enters the house because it just triggers on motion and not identity or you forget to turn it on when you leave, which of course defeats the purpose of having a security camera in the first place.Now if you just want it to watch your dog or cat during the day it will probably work just fine. I know the reason I purchased the Dropcam was as a security device and the ability for it to arm itself automatically when I left home and turned off... They continued to charge a subscription for the replaced cam! We've been on the phone now for 45 minutes trying to get this matter resolved with utterly incompetent staff. In addition, the Nest web site displays an incorrect subscription billing charge for EVERY month. Their web site billing system does not work. Buy some other non-google cam system. If we didn't have so much invested in this system, we would never buy it again. If we have known that GOOGLE was going to buy Nest, we would never have even thought to consider this system. Do just a little background research on GOOGLE and you will likely agree, this company is NOT to be trusted.AS OF 1/26/16 WE HAVE DISCOVERED THAT NEST HAS FIXED THE PRIVACY ISSUE.
